The Boat:

Sleeping only 16 divers, Odyssey is ideal for the discerning diver that wants to get away from the masses.

6 of the cabins have been cleverly designed with a double bed for couples and a separate twin or a bunk for friends. All of the cabins have en suite and air con with great views of the aqua seas floating past. The saloon is huge with all the of latest entertainment systems in place. The dining area seats all 16 divers in total comfort, serving a varied and delicious menu of international cuisine. Upstairs the sun deck awaits and offers both sunny spots and shady corners.

Photographers are also well catered for with rinse tanks and camera tables whilst divers who want to go that bit deeper can request twinsets and stages. Rebreather divers are welcome but please check if you tank requirements can be accommodated prior to travel. Odyssey is now able to pump high O2 and trimix blends. There's even a lift to help ease divers entry and exits.

The Diving:

It is the gorgeous wrecks that lure divers to Truk lagoon. The loss of the Japanese imperial fleet was tragic but has gifted us an unrivalled concentration of ships. From cruisers and tankers to submarines and aeroplane, there are over 60 wrecks in this one small lagoon. It is no wonder that Jacques Couteau chose Truk as the wreck destination to show the world. Many are within recreational dive limits whilst others will suit anyone looking to explore the technical side of Truk. Spend many an hour weaving your way along the companion ways and through the holds that are packed with all kinds of army supplies. All of Truk's ghostly fleet is draped in soft corals and frequented by tropical fish a plenty alongside reef sharks and rays.

The Weather:

The dry season in Truk runs from December to April, with the rainy season running over our summer months. Annual rainfall is around 115 inches. It is warm more or less all year round, so pack light summer clothing, especially for time on land. The average air temp is between 25-28C. The water temperature ranges from 27-28C. Visibility ranges from 10m to 30m depending on where you are in the lagoon. There is little current.

A typical day on board:

The day aboard Odyssey begins after a 7:00 a.m. hot breakfast with your first dive briefing around 7:45. You will be able to do two dives before lunch. During lunch we usually move to a new site. After lunch you have the option to either do another dive, or relax. A late afternoon dive is also offered.

Since most of the dive sites in Truk Lagoon are fairly close to each other, it is easy for us to move around. The best part about diving aboard Odyssey is that we don't require everyone to dive at the same time. So it is not unusual for you and your buddy to be the only divers on a 500' wreck. For photographers, this offers more opportunities to shoot those popular scenes without having to wait for others to move out of the way.

Travel

In terms of flights, we normally travel via Manila

Flight to Manila in economy, approx £800-£1000.  Several major carriers including Emirates
flight Manila - Truk in economy approx £800pp.  United airlines only
Overnight hotel in Manila, approx £100 x 2
Overnight hotel in Guam, approx £100 x 2

Since Truk re-opened the United flights (Manila - Truk) have been less reliable when leaving the island.
As such we recommend a night in Guam on the way home to ensure no one misses any connections, if they are indeed delayed getting out of Truk
