SSI Dive Control Specialist
SSI Dive Control Specialist
The first level of SSI professional training which qualifies you to teach try dives, scuba reviews and assist with dive courses. Also as it is an Assistant Instructor level you can also teach the classroom and pool portions of open water courses.
What Will You Learn?
If you have a passion for diving and want to share that passion with others and help others learn to dive then this is the course for you. You will learn to enjoy diving on an entirely different level and to earn the respect of other divers.
You will also learn new skills and knowledge that are the foundation needed to become an effective dive professional and share your love of diving with others.
Dive Control Specialists are an integral part of the Dive Training System and can:
♦ Teach everything a Dive Guide and Divemaster can
♦ Assist SSI Instructors in the classroom, pool and open water
♦ Teach skills in the classroom and pool under the indirect supervision of an SSI Instructor
♦ Teach the Scuba Skills Update program, and Try Scuba Pool Experience
Course Pre-requisites
SSI or PADI Divemasters who are at least 18 years old may enroll in the Dive Control Specialist course. You also need to have:

First Aid training within the past 24 months.

Oxygen Provider qualification

A medical statement signed by a physician within the last 12 months.

At least 60 logged dives
-
Experience in night or limited visibility diving, deep diving and navigating
Knowledge Development
You'll receive the digital Dive Control Specialist course materials to download and study at home before the course.
During the course you will learn about the differences in being a diver and a dive professional and cover topics such as

the role of the Dive Control Specialist
-
the SSI eductional system
-
teaching in confined water
-
teaching in open water
-
dive group management
-
giving dive briefings

You'll also have a pool skills evaluation, an open water and rescue skills evaluation and practice teaching in the classroom, pool and open water.

You also need to:

meet the professionalism criteria.

complete the water fitness evaluation
-
complete the fnal exam with a passing score of 90%
