The Azores offers some amazing diving and wildlife encounters including dolphins, sharks and rays.  We are staying on the southerly most island, Santa Maria which has access to some great dive sites and have 7 nights and 5 days diving and a full day land tour on the last day.

Ambrósio is located in the north side of the island at 3nm from shore and 9nm from the marina this is beyond no doubt one of the best dives in the area. From late June to mid-October there are normally groups of 12-17 manta rays there, it is not unusual to see 40-50 at the same time. This is a dive in the blue, and we have ropes in the water for safety because we can get strong currents there. It is also common to see other big pelagic, like tuna, mackerel, bluefish and barracudas or even the whale shark.

Diving in the Azores is very weather dependent so the exact itinery will be determined on arrival but this is the plan:

​6 Sept:  Arrival

7 Sept:  2 boat dives

8 Sept:  Ambrosio & 1 boat dive

9 Sept: 2 boat dives & afternoon baxia do ambrosio

10 Sept: Formigas / Dollabarat (2 dives)

11 Sept:  2 boat dives (Ambrosio if weather permits)

​12 Sept: Full Day Island Tour - Lunch; jeep/van tour. 

​13 Sept:  Depart​

 

Water temp is approx 23 degrees, so a long 5mm / 7mm wetsuit with shortie and hood is recommended.
