Details
The Azores is off the west coast of Portugal and is on the UK Green travel list, meaning we can go there on holiday!

The diving is great and offers great visibility, a variety of wrecks and ample marine life. See Azores Scuba Diving. In June the average water temp is 20 degrees , so a long 5mm wetsuit with a 3mm shortie over the top should be fine, plus hood and gloves to keep you cosy if you feel the cold.
We are diving with well established Haliotis dive centre on Faial island and have 10 'recreational' dives booked. These will be on the nice reefs around the island, and you can upgrade some of your dive package for dive upgrades such as Princess Alice banks and the blue shark dives.

We are staying at the Faial Garden Hotel on a B&B basis.

Travelling is subject to various exit and entry requirements that must be followed. For Green travel list rules see the UK Government website.

Summary:
​
1. Show a negative PCR test to leave UK and enter Portugal. The test must have been taken within 72 hours of departure.
​
2. Complete the Azores passenger questionnaire before arriving in the Azores. Link Here
​
3. Have a negative PCR test 72 hours before return to the UK. The dive centre will arrange the PCR tests for return and take you to the Faial labs, and there is no charge this as it is covered by the local authorities.
​
4. Complete your Passenger Locator Form anytime in the 48hrs before you arrive in the UK
​
5. Before travel book your UK PCR test which must be taken within 48hrs of returning back to the UK. UK border force will want to see proof of this when you come through immigration.
​
Make sure you have insurance that covers covid 19 (pre and during travel eventualities), diving activities as well as the usual requirements for your needs
Make sure your passport has validity of 6mths (we are not in the EU anymore) and be no older than 10yrs

06.00 Mon 21st June, leave Heathrow. Arrive Lisbon 08.40. Leave Lisbon at 14.55 and arrive in Horta, Santa Maria at 16.40. This is a long-ish pause in Lisbon but Scuba Travel recommend this to allow for any delays with flights or long queues.

Tuesday 29 June, leave Horta at 10.25. Arrive Lisbon 13:55. Leave Lisbon at 20.20 and arrive at Heathrow 22:55
Baggage Allowance

The standard economy baggage is 23kgs hold + 10kgs hand. If you need more you need to purchase extra hold at the desk on check in. It cannot be booked online or in advance as the 2 different airlines on the ticket don't work together.

The Business class option is a good alternative as you get 2 x 32kg hold bag allowance per person, so loads of luggage allowance , and is approx £200 extra.

The price of the extra luggage you might want to book if you are flying economy is: Heathrow - Lisbon & Lisbon - Heathrow approx 35 euro per way. Lisbon - Horta & Horta - Lisbon approx 12.50 euro per 5kgs block extra per way.
