The Philippines offers some amazing diving and Malapascua Island in particular has an impressive reputation for such a small location - being most famous for its thresher sharks. Once arriving at Cebu airport we are transferred by private taxi to Maya jetty on the north coast for the short boat ride to Malapascua island. Exotic Resort is the pioneer dive resort on Malapascua and has not lost any of its charm or personal service over the years. It is located right on the beachfront and has a beautiful beach garden with hammocks for relaxing after a days diving.
We are spending 6 nights at Exotic Resort and doing 2 dives each morning to see the Thresher sharks and other amazing marine life followed by the afternoon to relax, add on extra dives or dive at sunset to see the beautiful mandarin fish. Diving in Malapascua mixes up big fish sightings with macro and muck diving against a backdrop of flourishing soft corals. The star of the show are the thresher sharks. Normally shy and elusive, the Exotic Resort has a proven track record for getting you closer and witnessing behaviours seldom seen before. When you are not looking for the big fish, spend an hour or two on one of the many gorgeous reef dives.
We are then transferred to Kasai Village at Moalboal on the mainland for 4 nights to enjoy the diving of the Moalboal marine park. Kasai Village sits right on the water's edge and you can jump into the pool to cool off or stroll down the custom built jetty and you are on the house reef. The house reef is a must see with many of those hard to find critters just metres away from your room. The house reef opens at 06:00 in the morning and features nudibranch, mandarin fish and pygmy seahorses. Guided dives are recommenced to help find those really small beasts. Boat dives are also on offer and the with luscious healthy reefs and little current the Moalboal marine park is beautiful and has swirling sardines, barracuda and turtles. An exceptional location for photography, divers can spend hours underwater discovering new behaviours and those hard to find critters with great visibility. Excellent wall diving adds to the excitement.
Diving in the Philippines is hugely varied and you can see everything from the incredible thresher sharks to the smallest critters while there. This promises to be an amazing trip - be sure to book your place soon to avoid missing out!
