You can with PADI's professional level dive qualifications.  These allow you to do something you love and increase your understanding of diving and dive planning.  We run all the professional level courses from Divemaster through to Instructor.

Divemaster
After you've completed the PADI Rescue Diver course, you're ready for Divemaster. PADI Divemaster training develops your leadership abilities by teaching you to supervise dive activities and assist instructors with student divers. Divemasters can:
  • Work with local dive centers, on live-aboard boats and resorts
  • Assist PADI Instructors with scuba classes
  • Lead PADI Scuba Divers on guided dive tours
  • Teach and certify PADI Skin Divers
  • Conduct PADI Scuba Review programs for certified divers
  • Conduct Discover Local Diving orientations
  • Teach The Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty Course after completing a training course.
  • Teach Emergency First Response first aid programs after completing the training program.

What's involved?

  • Learn dive leadership skills through classroom sessions and by using the PADI Divemaster Manual and Video.
  • Complete a series of waterskills and stamina exercises in confined and open water environments.
  • Gain hands-on experience supervising and assisting divers in actual PADI programs, under the guidance of a PADI Instructor
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of dive theory including physics, physiology, equipment, dive planning and supervising student divers
  • Three required training exercises that test organizational and problem solving abilities.
    1. Mapping a dive site, including underwater and surface features
    2. Equipment exchange: demonstrate the ability to solve unanticipated problems underwater
    3. Conduct a simulated or actual class, under the supervision of a PADI Instructor
 
Assistant Instructor / Open Water Scuba Instructor
The PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) consists of two sections, the Assistant Instructor (AI) course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program. You can complete each course separately or combine them together, going through the entire IDC in as few as seven days. 
 
The PADI Assistant Instructor course provides you additional experience as a PADI Professional and teaches you the PADI System of diver education. Assistant Instructors can:
  • Teach knowledge development (classroom) presentations (under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor)
  • Evaluate Open Water Diver surface skills (under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor)
  • Teach the Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty course
  • Teach the Project AWARE Specialty course
  • Conduct PADI Discover Scuba experiences
  • Teach Emergency First Response courses after successfully completing the training course.

Prerequisites:

  • PADI Divemaster rating or qualifying certification from another organization
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • 60 logged dives (with experience in night, deep and navigation)
  • Proof of CPR and first aid training within the last 24 months

What's involved?

  • Self-study – Knowledge reviews, quizzes, lectures and presentations
  • Confined water – Skills review and assessment, workshops and presentations
  • Open Water – Workshops, rescue assessment and candidate presentations
The Open Water Scuba Instructor program portion of the PADI IDC further hones your leadership and teaching skills to prepare you for life as a PADI Instructor.

PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor Program Course Prerequisites:

  • PADI Assistant Instructor certification
  • Certified diver for at least six months
  • 60 logged dives (with experience in night, deep, and navigation)
  • Proof of CPR and first aid training within the last 24 months.

You must have a minimum of 100 logged dives to become a PADI Instructor (though you can begin training as one with 60 logged dives

Once you've qualified as an Instructor you can continue your education and training by progressing through the ranks of Instructors with the following qualifications:

Master Scuba Diver Trainer
As an Instructor once you have certified 25 students and gained experience in many different dive environments and techniques you can register as a Master Scuba Diver Trainer which allows you to teach a range of speciality courses.
 
IDC Staff Instructor
Instructors who have gone beyond the PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer certification have special credentials that allow them to teach PADI Instructor Development Courses or programs within the IDC. PADI IDC Staff Instructors can teach the AI course in its entirety and may assist with IDCs.
 
Master Instructor
PADI Master Instructors teach the same courses as IDC Staff Instructors, however they have achieved a higher rating through their overall support of the PADI system throughout their career as a dive professional.  
 
Course Director
The PADI Course Director rating is like earning a master's degree in scuba education and is the pinnacle of all PADI Instructor level certifications. Course Directors teach the full spectrum of PADI Courses and focus on conducting PADI IDCs.
