Course Name Surface Marker Buoy Speciality
Overview

Using a Surface Marker Buoy (SMB) is a key skill for any diver. The PADI SMB Speciality course introduces the knowledge and techniques required for the safe use of SMBs.
General Content
During the SMB Speciality course you'll learn:
 
  • Why and how to use an SMB
  • Different types of SMB and reels
  • Methods of SMB deployment
  • Risks and hazards of SMB use

    • Over two open water dives you will then put the knowledge into practice and carry out a number of skills including deploying an SMB from the bottom and from mid water, conduct a tour while towing the SMB and demnstrate the ability to reel in and out.
    Requirements You must be a PADI Open Water Diver (or have an equivalent qualifying certification) and be at least 12 years old.
    Knowledge Development There is no PADI  manual or knowledge reivews but an academic session will cover the required theory for safe use of an SMB.
