Course Details: Open Water Scuba Instructor

Course Name Open Water Scuba Instructor

Overview
The Open Water Scuba Instructor portion of the PADI IDC further hones your leadership and teaching skills to prepare you for life as a PADI Instructor.  This is an intense course which is one of the most rewarding things you'll ever do.

General Content
The OWSI program is a minimum of four days. It introduces you to the entire PADI System of diver education and concentrates on further developing your abilities as a professional dive educator. This is taught in Norwich by Chris - our resident PADI Course Director.

Once completed you then attend the PADI Instructor Exams for final assessment prior to qualifying.

The next A.I. course is running in October / November 2010, with the OWSI portion running from 9 to 12 December in Warwick.  The Instructor Exams are at Stoney Cove on 14 & 15 December 2010.

Requirements
  • PADI Assistant Instructor certification
  • Certified diver for at least six months
  • 60 logged dives (with experience in night, deep, and navigation)
  • Proof of CPR and first aid training within the last 24 months.

You must have a minimum of 100 logged dives to become a PADI Instructor (though you can begin training as one with 60 logged dives)

Knowledge Development and Diving sessions
During the course you'll cover and practice a variety of teaching presentations in the classroom, pool and open water including:
  • Self-study – Knowledge reviews, quizzes, lectures and presentations

If you're considering becoming a PADI Instructor, come and talk to us about the options, what's included, what you can expect and what it's like.

Once you've qualified as an Instructor you can continue your education and training by progressing through the ranks of Instructors with the following qualifications:

    Master Scuba Diver Trainer
As an Instructor once you have certified 25 students and gained experience in many different dive environments and techniques you can register as a Master Scuba Diver Trainer which allows you to teach a range of speciality courses.

    IDC Staff Instructor
Instructors who have gone beyond the PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer certification have special credentials that allow them to teach PADI Instructor Development Courses or programs within the IDC. PADI IDC Staff Instructors can teach the AI course in its entirety and may assist with IDCs.

    Master Instructor
PADI Master Instructors teach the same courses as IDC Staff Instructors, however they have achieved a higher rating through their overall support of the PADI system throughout their career as a dive professional.

    Course Director
The PADI Course Director rating is like earning a master's degree in scuba education and is the pinnacle of all PADI Instructor level certifications. Course Directors teach the full spectrum of PADI Courses and focus on conducting PADI IDCs.

    Cost
    £495
If completing the AI and OWSI courses together the PADI IDC crewpack (rrp £365) is included in the course fees.
